Currently on my easel Night at the Spring House
This painting is definitely a challenge. Looking to play light against dark.
First pass, I started blocking in shapes, color and mood. I still need to add a little more glow to the building to add more depth.
This is a spring house located on Newcomen Rd. West Pikeland. It's a land mark I pass every day on my way home from work.

Second pass - working on depth & personality
Red Fox
9 x 8
Acrylic on old roofing slate.
Working on slate is a wonderful challenge. The slate soaks
up the paint like a sponge. It takes many layers to achieve the density your looking for. Sometimes you
think you got the color just right and then your paint starts to fade away. Once you get a few layers of paint down it starts behaving like a regular painting.
I enjoy trying to make the image grow out of the slate.

I've been having a blast working on these paintings. Working on a dark surface is a challenge. It takes a little time to start getting the colors to be brilliant. Acrylic paint has a transparency nature to it. So the dark gray of the slate shows thru until you have plenty of paint laid down. I build up the color slowly until I reach the density and brilliance I'm looking for.
